Only three players off limits as Man United plot fire sale

Manchester United are prepared to listen to offers for almost their entire first-team squad this summer as part of a dramatic overhaul at Old Trafford.

The arrival of minority owners Ineos and new faces in the boardroom are set to lead to wholesale changes on the pitch, with Manchester United prepared to offload several of their underperforming squad.

Erik ten Hag’s team are sixth in the Premier League and can not mathematically qualify for next season’s Champions League.

According to the Telegraph, only rising stars Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund will be deemed not for sale as part of their squad rebuild, and offers will be listened to for the remainder of the squad.

That includes Marcus Rashford, who had endured a challenging campaign in 2023/24. The 26-year-old scored 30 goals in all competitions last season but has managed just eight this time around.

United’s preference is to keep hold of the England international, though substantial offers will be considered, particularly if Rashford expresses a desire for a new challenge. Paris Saint-Germain are long-term admirers and in the market for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

The Red Devils want to sign a striker, a central midfielder and a centre-back in the summer but require sales to increase a ‘very modest transfer budget’.

Central midfield is an area of concern with Sofyan Amrabat’s loan having disappointed, while Casemiro’s decline from last season’s performances has been notable.

Money will be saved on the departures of free agents including Brandon Williams, Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, while Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood, each of whom are out on loan, will likely move on.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelof are also deemed surplus to requirements and could be sold to raise transfer funds.
