Chelsea ‘unlikely’ to make move for Liverpool forward

Chelsea are unlikely to make a move to sign Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez this summer despite long-term admiration of the player.

Nunez has sparked speculation that he could leave Liverpool after removing all photos of himself in the club’s colours from his social media page.

The Uruguay international was named as a substitute for the second successive game against Tottenham at the weekend, and has faced criticism for his performances in recent weeks.

Nunez posted photos of himself alongside Barcelona defender and international teammate Ronald Araujo this week and has been linked with the Spanish side in the media.

His situation has also led to suggestions Chelsea could make an approach as the Blues search for a striker, having held interest in Nunez previously.

However, 90min are reporting that Nunez is viewed as an ‘important part’ of Liverpool’s future in the post-Jurgen Klopp era and Chelsea are unlikely to pursue a deal.

Nunez has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in 52 appearances for Liverpool this season but has been criticised for wasting a high volume of chances. No player in the Premier League has a greater xG underperformance than the 24-year-old (-6.84).

Chelsea’s striker shortlist is headed by Napoli’s Victor Osimhem, with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson also under consideration.
