Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted that midfielder star Youri Tielemans has not rejected a new contract, amid rumoured links to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Belgian ace has blossomed into arguably one of the Foxes most important players and one of the best in the division in his position, having initially joined the club on-loan from Monaco in January 2019, before the deal was made permanent later that year.
Still just 24, it is now eight years since the midfielder made his professional debut, having first featured for Anderlecht as a 16-year-old back in 2013, before going on to make the switch to France four years later.
While that move to Ligue 1 failed to work out, Tielemans is now a pivotal player for both club and country and is reportedly being courted by the Premier League elite, notably that of Liverpool and Manchester United – who he scored against in the recent 4-2 win at the King Power Stadium.
Speculation that he could be on the move has ramped up in recent days following reports that he has rejected a new contract at his current club, with just under two years remaining on his existing deal.
As per the Mail, Leicester are believed to have tabled an offer that would make the FA Cup final hero one of the best-paid players at the club, as recognition for his fine form in recent years.
According to his manager, however, there has been no such refusal by the midfielder, with the former Celtic boss insisting that two parties are in talks over a new deal, while he also praised the player’s ‘commitment to the team’.
“There’s reports, but there’s (been) no turning down,” Rodgers told the media at his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s clash with. Brentford.
“I think there’s just dialogue between the club and Youri’s people. I think the club are waiting to hear back. But that’s something that’s out of my control.
“What I can control is his mentality, his commitment to the team, and you cannot question that.”
