Bernardo hails ‘unbelievable’ achievement as City win title

Bernardo Silva has hailed an unbelievable achievement from Manchester City after the club won a record-breaking fourth Premier League title in a row.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad on the final weekend to secure a fourth straight league title, becoming the first team in English football history to achieve the feat.

Phil Foden scored twice to put the Citizens in control, before Mohammed Kudus scored a spectacular overhead kick to bring West Ham back into the game. Rodri’s goal settled the nerves of the home side, who saw out the result to end the season as champions again.

Bernardo reflected on the club’s title triumph, a sixth in eight seasons under Guardiola, and said City’s dominance of the division is an unbelievable achievement.

“The margins are so small. Liverpool in two seasons we beat them by one point and now Arsenal by two points. We’ve been lucky enough to have these small margins to be in front of them,” he said to Sky Sports.

“The achievement is unbelievable. Four in a row, we are so, so proud and so, so happy.”

Asked whether there were any nerves after West Ham pulled a goal back through Kudus, he added: “It creates a bit of doubt because you know they don’t need to play very well to do some damage. The team maintained the same level, we created chances and went for the third goal and luckily we scored and won the game.”

Silva has now won six Premier League titles with City and was asked which of the title wins was the most special.

“All of them but the first one is always the most special. Winning four in a row and something that was never done before is unbelievable, right?

“The way this team is built, they know if everyone works very hard we are a step closer to winning. As the senior guys right now, we have to make sure that the new guys feel the same way. In this team it is not acceptable to not work and give 100% and that’s what we do every game.”
