‘No decision taken’ over Solskjaer future but ‘no contact’ with potential replacements

‘No decision’ has been made on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United, although there has so far been ‘no contact’ with any potential replacements.

Solskjaer’s position has come under mounting pressure following the club’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, the Red Devils suffering their heaviest ever defeat at home to the Merseyside club and losing for the first time to-nil and by 5+ goals at home since February 1955.

United are now also without a win in four Premier League fixtures and speculation has suggested that Solskjaer is on the brink at Old Trafford, though Fabrizio Romano is reporting that ‘no decision’ has been made on the manager’s future.

The club’s hierarchy have previously backed Solskjaer publicly and called on the importance of stability and Romano has insisted that no contact has been made with potential successors.

Antonio Conte has been linked with the role and the former Chelsea manager is understood to be open to the position, despite holding reservations regarding the Red Devils’ structure.

Conte has been without a club since leaving Inter Milan during the summer, having guided the Italian side to Serie A title success last season before disagreements with the club’s ownership.

Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers have also been mentioned as potential candidates should United decide that Solskjaer’s position has become untenable.
