Spain: Premier League trio included in Euro 2024 squad

Spain have named their provisional squad for this summer’s European Championship.

La Roja have named an initial 29-man group ahead of the tournament in Germany, which will need to be reduced by three players by the UEFA deadline on June 7.

There are a trio of Premier League players included in Luis de la Fuente’s squad, who will be captained by ex-Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is named, alongside Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella and Manchester City midfielder Rodri. However, Aston Villa defender Pau Torres and Tottenham’s Pedro Porro miss out.

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal is named in the squad for the three-time winners and the 16-year-old will become the youngest player in history to feature at a European Championship if he takes to the pitch this summer, eclipsing Poland’s Kacper Kozlowski who was 17 years and 236 days when he featured, against Spain, in 2021.

Yamal has won six caps since becoming the youngest player and goalscorer for Spain when making his debut against Georgia in September 2023. There’s also a first call-up, aged 30, for former Leicester forward Ayoze Perez.

Spain face holders Italy, World Cup semi-finalists Croatia and Albania in Group B.
