Manchester United fail in bid to hijack Bayern transfer

Manchester United have failed in a bid to hijack Bayern Munich’s move for Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

Bayern have agreed a deal to sign Olise from Palace after activating the 22-year-old’s release clause at Selhurst Park.

The German side will pay a fee in the region of €60m (£50.9m) for the Frenchman, who scored 10 goals in 14 Premier League starts last season.

The Evening Standard have revealed that Manchester United have failed in a late bid to hijack the deal with no confirmation the transfer to Bayern has been completed.

Erik ten Hag had identified Olise as a target for the summer transfer window, with Jadon Sancho set to leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

United were one of several Premier League teams, alongside Chelsea and Newcastle, hoping to conclude a deal but there are not expected to be any issues as Bayern finalise the transfer.

Olise’s move to Munich is expected to be completed in the coming days with Sky Germany reporting a medical is planned and ‘small details’ still left to address.
