Brighton join race for right-back alongside Spurs and West Ham

Brighton have joined the race to sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton and have enquired into the conditions of a deal.

Walker-Peters has entered the final 12 months of his deal at Southampton and is expected to leave this summer despite the club’s promotion back into the Premier League.

Brighton have made an approach to sign the 26-year-old, who was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season in 2023-24 and has been capped twice for England at senior level.

The Seagulls are not alone in chasing a deal for the right-back, however, with West Ham also heavily linked as part of a potential swap deal involving Flynn Downes, who spent last season on loan at Southampton.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham are also monitoring the situation of their former player, with Walker-Peters having come through the academy ranks in North London before a £12m move to St Mary’s in 2020.

The arrival of Walker-Peters would increase the depleted homegrown continent in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, while offering another option at right-back with Emerson Royal and Djed Spence expected to leave this summer.

Brighton, meanwhile, are also targeting an ambitious move to sign Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer.

The Netherlands international is understood to be on AC Milan’s radar but Brighton have opened talks with the 24-year-old over a potential move to the Amex Stadium.
