Cucurella says he will ‘take care’ of new Chelsea signing

Marc Cucurella has revealed that he has spoken to new Chelsea signing Marc Guiu and has said the club will ‘take care’ of the Spanish starlet.

Chelsea have signed the teenager from Barcelona in a deal worth around £5m, securing a deal for the promising forward after activating his release clause.

Barcelona had hoped to persuade Guiu to sign a new deal but the 18-year-old has decided on a transfer to the Premier League in search of a clearer route to first-team football.

Cucurella revealed he has already spoken to his compatriot and offered any help Guiu needs to settle in West London.

“We spoke and I told him that if he needed anything, he should let me know,” Cucurella told Spanish outlet Sport.

“I’m happy because he’s a great player, very young, with a very promising future and we’re going to take care of him so that he can play his best football.”

Cucurella was asked for his view on Guiu’s decision to leave Barcelona after just seven senior appearances. Last season, he became the youngest and fastest debutant to score for Barcelona in La Liga after netting after just 23 seconds against Athletic Bilbao, aged 17 years and 291 days.

The left-back – who also came through the academy at Barcelona – said it was a ‘complicated’ decision for Guiu to leave Barcelona and said ‘all footballers want to play’.

“It’s complicated. All footballers want to play. Some have held out, been patient and have not had the opportunity. Football is difficult, nobody guarantees you anything, you have to take advantage of your opportunities and think about your future.”
