Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes Liverpool have appointed an ‘exceptional’ coach to replace Jurgen Klopp in Arne Slot.
Slot has replaced Klopp as Liverpool manager after the latter’s decision to step down at Anfield, with the Dutchman tasked with replacing the Reds’ most successful manager of the Premier League era.
The 45-year-old has inherited a team that competed for the Premier League title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City last season and Arteta is expecting Liverpool to be strong once again in 2023-24.
“That’s a question for him (how will Liverpool change under Slot) and the people that have decided to come here. Welcome to the Premier League. I think he is an exceptional coach,” Arteta said to ESPN.
“Obviously it is a bit sad to see Jürgen leave because what he has brought to the league, I think, is something unprecedented with his charisma, his way of playing and the moments he has created in this league.”
Arsenal will face Liverpool in pre-season and also face an all-Premier League tie with Manchester United in the United States. Arteta believes it is a change to grow the brand of the Premier League abroad.
“First of all, commercially it is a huge opportunity for our football club to grow and deliver to all these people who are supporting the club to put on a big show and to do that you need strong opposition. It does not get better than the Premier League because it is what they love watching and we agreed immediately because we know the importance of that.”
