Germany have ‘plan’ to stop Rodri in Euro 2024 clash

Ilkay Gundogan has called Spain midfielder Rodri one of ‘the best in the world’ and has revealed Germany have a ‘plan’ to stop the midfielder this evening.

Germany take on Spain in a huge quarter-final clash at Euro 2024 on Friday, as the two most impressive teams of the tournament to date collide in Stuttgart.

Gundogan will captain host nation Germany against a Spain team who have won all four fixtures in comfortable fashion so far. The 33-year-old will come up against former Manchester City teammate Rodri in midfield, with the duo having had decorated success together in English football.

Gundogan believes Rodri has evolved into one of the best midfielders in the world under Pep Guardiola’s guidance at the Etihad and said Germany have a ‘plan’ to nullify his impact on the game.

“It is incredible how much he has developed,” Gundogan told Sky Germany when discussing Rodri.

“He used to stay long after training with Pep Guardiola. His performances are unmatched. As a holding midfielder, he is among the best in the world. But you can make him think with certain things.

“That is part of our plan for tomorrow (Friday).”
