Arsenal defender could leave with Calafiori deal close

Arsenal could allow Jakub Kiwior to leave the club should a suitable offer arrive, with Riccardo Calafiori close to a transfer to the Emirates.

The Gunners are nearing an agreement with Bologna to sign Calafiori, following a standout campaign for the centre-back in Serie A. Calafiori helped Bologna qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1964-65 and broke into the Italian national team ahead of Euro 2024.

Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal worth in the region of €50m (£42.2m) for Calafiori and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the defender’s arrival could lead to Kiwior’s exit.

The latter has struggled to command an automatic role at Arsenal since signing from Spezia.

Calafiroi’s ability to cover centre-back and left-back means Kiwior could move on should a suitable offer arrive. Mikel Arteta also has Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu as options who can cover both positions.

Arsenal will only consider a loan exit for the Poland international if the deal includes a mandatory purchase clause. There is interest from Italian clubs in the 24-year-old, though no formal offers have been submitted.
