Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata are the options AC Milan are considering at centre-forward this summer after missing out on a deal for Joshua Zirkzee.
Zirkzee is nearing a transfer to the Premier League with Manchester United in advanced talks to sign the forward from Bologna, having informed the Italian side of their intent to activate his £34m release clause.
Milan had hoped to work out a deal to sign the Dutchman but will now move on to alternative targets with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Chelsea’s Lukaku and Atletico Madrid’s Morata are the options being considered.
Lukaku is free to leave Chelsea after a disastrous return to West London. The Belgium international has spent the past two seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma after underwhelming following his club-record return to Stamford Bridge in 2021.
Chelsea value the forward at £38m but could accept a reduced fee to offload the 31-year-old from their wage bill.
Morata is also an option Milan like and has been cryptic on his future in recent months. The 31-year-old scored 21 goals in all competitions in 2023-24 but has bemoaned the criticism he has often faced in Spanish football.
Morata has rejected an approach from the Saudi Pro League and will decide his future once Spain’s campaign at Euro 2024 comes to an end. He is rumoured to have a release clause of just €13m in his contract at Atletico.
