Atletico Madrid are the ‘most interested club’ in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer.
Gallagher’s future is up in the air after entering the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea with no progression on a potential extension to that deal. Chelsea are open to the sale of the England international and are keen to avoid the risk of losing Gallagher on a free transfer in 2025.
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are the Premier League teams who have pursued a deal for the 24-year-old, though Atletico Madrid are understood to be the frontrunners. Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Spanish side are the ‘most interested club’ in the race for Gallagher, though financing a deal will be difficult.
Interest from Atletico is genuine, however, and the club have made contact with Chelsea to discuss the conditions of a deal. Chelsea are believed to value Gallagher at around £50m despite his contract situation.
Gallagher’s future is unlikely to be decided until the midfielder returns from representing England at the European Championship. He has made four appearances for the Three Lions at Euro 2024, ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final with the Netherlands.
Gallagher, who scored five goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League in 2023-24, is understood to remain happy at Chelsea and will consider remaining with the Blues ahead of free agency in 2025.
