Bayern Munich are set to receive a €21m windfall from Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer to Manchester United, as part of a sell-on clause inserted in the forward’s Bologna contract.
Zirkzee came through the ranks at Bayern and made 17 senior appearances for the German side before departing for Bologna in 2022. Bayern inserted a 50% sell-on clause into that agreement and will receive €21m as Zirkzee nears his transfer to the Premier League.
Manchester United have agreed to sign the Dutchman with the forward set to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will pay €42.5m for the 23-year-old, of which half will go to Bayern Munich.
Zirkzee scored 11 league goals last season as Bologna shocked Serie A to secure Champions League qualification. He was named Serie A’s Young Player of the Season and earned a late inclusion in the Netherland squad for Euro 2024.
The forward will become the first major signing under new minority owners Ineos at Manchester United and bolsters a forward line depleted by the exit of Anthony Martial.
United are also working on defensive additions with negotiations ongoing for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and Lille teenager Leny Yoro.
