Aston Villa finalising deal for £50m Premier League midfielder

Aston Villa are close to finalising a £50m deal to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

Unai Emery is a big fan of the Belgium international and is targeting Onana as a replacement for Douglas Luiz, who departed Villa Park to sign for Juventus last month.

Personal terms have been agreed with the 22-year-old on a long-term contract, according to The Athletic, as Villa look to strengthen their midfield ahead of Champions League football next season.

Onana signed for Everton in a £33m deal from Lille in 2022 and has scoured four goals in 72 appearances across two seasons with the Toffees. The Belgian’s performances have attracted interest from several Premier League rivals with Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea all credited with interest in Onana in recent months.

He will become the third midfielder to sign for Villa this summer, following the arrivals of Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus and Ross Barkley from Luton Town.

The club have also brought in Lewis Dobbin, Samuel Iling-Junior and Ian Maatsen, alongside the return of Cameron Archer as part of a relegation clause in the forward’s move to Sheffield United last summer.
