Fantasy Premier League: Major changes to FPL announced ahead of next season

Fantasy Premier League will see a number of rules changes and new features added to the game ahead of the 2024/25 season. 

In what is the biggest alteration to FPL since the introduction of chips, players will now be able to bank up to five free transfers, whereas previously you could only accumulate two.

That means if you decide not to make a transfer (or simply forget to) for five gameweeks, you will have five free transfers to use on your squad without having to take a hit.

FPL aren’t stopping there when it comes to adjusting the game, making small changes to points scoring, the bonus point system (BPS), and the pitch interface, as well as the introduction of a new mystery chip (which will be revealed in January 2025).

If a goalkeeper scores a goal, they will now receive ten points, whereas before they were awarded with six. However, the amount of BPS goalkeepers receive for saving a penalty has been reduced from 15 down to nine.



The BPS has also seen a number of new additions, including:

  • Goalkeepers and defenders conceding a goal will be worth -4BPS.
  • A goal line clearance will be worth 3BPS.
  • A foul won will be worth 1BPS.
  • A shot on target will be worth 2BPS.

FPL have also slighted altered the pitch design when creating your team. They have added player cards that will offer “enhanced information when making a substitution or transfer”.

It has also been confirmed that there will be fewer, and smaller, blank and double gameweeks due to the FA Cup having a different schedule in the upcoming campaign.
