Juventus prepare ‘official bid’ for Premier League target

Juventus will continue their midfield rebuild with a formal offer to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

The Italian side are overhauling their squad under new head coach Thiago Motta and will continue their recruitment drive with a bid for Koopmeiners.

Liverpool have been linked with Koopmeiners, who worked under new Reds boss Arne Slot at former club AZ Alkmaar.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with interest in signing the Dutch international, who suggested he would be open to a Premier League transfer last season.

“I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer. But there must be something very nice to exchange for that for Atalanta,” Koopmeiners told De Telegraaf in March.

“My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy but I can endure the rain for some clubs in England. I hope there will be great options that I can think about.”

However, Juventus have emerged as frontrunners to sign the 26-year-old and Fabrizio Romano has revealed the Turin side will formalise an approach once the sale of Matias Soule is confirmed. Leicester and AS Roma are interested in the 21-year-old, whose exit will free funds for the club’s pursuit of Koopmeiners.

The latter scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Atalanta last season, winning the Europa League under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Koopmeiners could become the third midfield addition at Juventus this summer, following confirmed deals for Douglas Luiz and Khéphren Thuram.
