Manuel Ugarte has given the green light to a move to Manchester United with an agreement reached on personal terms.
Ugarte is Manchester United’s top target to reinforce their defensive midfield role and Paris Saint-Germain are open to his exit after just one season in Ligue 1.
The Red Devils have held negotiations with PSG to discuss a potential fee, with the French champions keen to recoup the €60m invested to sign Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that there are no issues between Ugarte’s representatives and United, however, with personal terms agreed and the player keen on the transfer despite a lack of Champions League football.
Ugarte, who featured as Uruguay reached the Copa America semi-finals this summer, led Ligue 1 for tackles per game last season having led Portugal’s Primeira Liga on the same metric in 2022-23. He is viewed as an ideal replacement for Casemiro, who has been linked with the Saudi Pro League after a decline in performances last season.
United hope Ugarte, has the same agent as new recruit Leny Yoro, will become the club’s third major signing of the summer after deals for the French defender and Joshua Zirkzee.
PSG are prepared to allow the midfielder to leave to bring in funds for their pursuits of Benfica midfielder Joao Neves and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.
