Arsenal wonderkid in transfer talks with Man United as clubs lurk

Arsenal are set to lose highly-rated prospect Chido Obi-Martin, with Manchester United the favourites to sign the youngster.

The 16-year-old made headlines in November when he scored ten goals for Arsenal‘s under-16s in a 10-4 win over Liverpool.

The forward was a goal machine last season, scoring seven times against Norwich City, five versus West Ham, and four in meetings with Crystal Palace and Fulham for the under-18s.

However, the Gunners are reportedly resigned to losing Obi-Martin following the expiry of his schoolboy terms at the club.

Arsenal made a ‘fair offer’ to the player but he has decided his future lies away from north London, according to The Athletic.

Man United are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Obi-Martin, whose next deal will be a scholarship before he can sign on professional terms on his 17th birthday.

The Danish youth international, who is also eligible to play for England, visited United’s Carrington training facilities earlier this week and the club are in ‘early-stage discussions over a move’.

Newcastle United have made contact with the player, as have Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and Monaco, according to Fabrizio Romano. Manchester City are said to not be in the running to sign the precocious talent.

Who is Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin?

Chido Obi-Martin was born in 2007 in Glostrup, on the outskirts of Copenhagen, before moving to England as a teenager.

He joined Arsenal from Danish team KB in 2022, since when he has impressed at underage level.

The forward scored 29 goals in 17 league matches for the under-18s, smashing Folarin Balogun’s record of 25 goals in a single campaign for Arsenal in that age group.

Obi-Martin has represented both Denmark and England at youth level, although he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

He played in Denmark’s 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification campaign, scoring twice in three group stage games.
