Osimhen could consider Saudi as PSG talks stall

Victor Osimhen remains intent on leaving Napoli this summer despite complications in talks over a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG have held negotiations with Napoli over a deal to sign the forward this summer, though the two clubs have failed to find a breakthrough.

The French champions are reluctant to meet Osimhen’s €130m (£109m) release clause, while PSG have rejected a proposal from Napoli to include South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in as a sweetener in the deal.

Osimhen remains determined to leave Napoli after four seasons with the club, in which the 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best centre-forwards in Europe.

The Nigeria international has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for the Serie A side and was the league’s leading scorer as Napoli won a drought-breaking Scudetto in 2022-23.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that PSG’s current stance and an unwillingness from Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, to meet Napoli’s asking price for Osimhen could lead to the forward considering the Saudi Pro League.

Osimhen had been against the idea of a move to the Middle East at this stage of his career, but his stance could soften should talks with PSG or English clubs not progress.

A host of Saudi Pro League teams are interested in signing Osimhen, who would represent a significant coup for the league if he were to arrive in the peak seasons of his career.

Napoli are targeting a deal for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for Osimhen, though require the latter’s sale to finance a deal. Head coach Antonio Conte is keen to reunite with Lukaku after a successful period together at Inter Milan.
