Premier League clubs have been alerted after Artem Dovbyk’s proposed move from Girona to Atletico Madrid collapsed.
Atletico Madrid had been closing in on the signing of the 27-year-old after informing Girona of their intention to match the player’s €40m release clause.
Dovbyk was the leading scorer in La Liga last season, becoming the first non-Real Madrid or Barcelona player to do so for 15 years, to fire Girona to a shock Champions League qualification.
Atleti had made the 24-goal striker their top target to replace Alvaro Morata, who has been allowed to join AC Milan. However, Dovbyk’s agent has said the deal is off after Atletico failed to table a suitable offer to the striker.
“Atletico Madrid is a big club, but we haven’t seen a serious project for Artem here,” Lundovskyi told UkrFootball.
“Their financial offer is significantly lower than offers from other clubs interested in La Liga’s top scorer.”
West Ham are understood to be monitoring the situation after facing issues in a deal to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa, while Villarreal’s Alexander Sorloth has also been named as a target for Julen Lopetegui’s side.
Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal are all seeking centre-forwards this summer and Dovbyk’s performances last season, and relatively modest release clause, could tempt the London trio to the table.
