Liverpool turned down a bid of €14m from Marseille for midfielder Wataru Endo earlier in the transfer window.
Marseille made an approach to sign the Japan international as the French side sought reinforcements in defensive midfield but saw their bid turned down.
Endo signed for Liverpool in a £16m deal from Stuttgart last summer after the Reds had missed out on the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.
The 31-year-old made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice, as Liverpool finished third in the Premier League table and won the League Cup.
Liverpool are expecting to receive further interest in Endo with the BBC reporting that several German sides are interested in bringing the player back to the Bundesliga.
Marseille, however, have since move on to alternative targets with the Ligue 1 side – under the management of ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi this season – having signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur and Ismael Kone from Watford.
