Abraham exit likely as Roma near striker signing

Tammy Abraham is likely to leave Roma this summer as the Italian side close in on the signing of Artem Dovbyk from Girona.

Abraham has struggled with injuries since an impressive first season in Rome in 2021-22, when the forward scored 27 goals in all competitions to fire the Serie A side to Europa Conference League success.

He was restricted to just 240 minutes of league action last season after sustaining an ACL injury that decimated his campaign and Roma are prepared to sanction his sale if a suitable offer arrives.

Daniele de Rossi’s side are in talks to sign Dovbyk from Girona with the Ukrainian having agreed on a five-year contract with the club.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that AC Milan have made contact with Roma and Abraham would be open to the transfer to the San Siro. The Rossoneri want to add a third centre-forward to their squad to complement Luka Jovic and summer signing Alvaro Morata.

However, The Football Faithful understands that Premier League clubs are monitoring the 26-year-old’s situation. Aston Villa – where Abraham scored 28 goals on loan in 2018-19 – are keeping tabs on the forward amid transfer interest in Jhon Duran, while West Ham and Spurs are long-term admirers.

A return to the Premier League could boost Abraham’s hopes of regaining his place in the England set-up, ahead of the appointment of a new manager following Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down from the role.

The former Chelsea forward has scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Three Lions.
