West Ham’s interest in signing Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Füllkrug is becoming ‘more and more concrete’
Julen Lopetegui’s side have opened initial talks with the Champions League finalists to discuss their demands for Füllkrug, who Dortmund are prepared to sell following the arrival of Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.
The 31-year-old was the Bundesliga’s leading scorer at former club Werder Bremen in 2022-23, before netting 12 times and providing eight assists following his transfer to Dortmund last summer.
However, Guirassys’s arrival could see him depart and West Ham are considering the German as a cheaper alternative to Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
The Irons have baulked at Villa’s demands for the 20-year-old and have switched their sights to Füllkrug, who scored twice at Euro 2024 for Germany and boasts a record of 13 goals in 21 caps for the national team.
Further talks are scheduled between Dortmund and West Ham in an attempt to reach an agreement, according to Sky Germany.
Stuttgart are also monitoring Füllkrug, as the Bundesliga outfit seek a replacement for Guirassy. Stuttgart have seen a bid for Brighton’s Deniz Undav rejected.
Is Niclas Füllkrug built for the Premier League?
After watching Füllkrug in action at Euro 2024, former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist backed the target man for a Premier League transfer this summer.
“But the one I’d like to see (move to the Premier League) is Fullkrug,” McCoist told talkSPORT.
“I have no doubt he would score goals in the top-flight in England. I like him. I don’t like using the term old-fashioned centre-forward. But he’s a proper centre-forward.
“He brings people into play, can go in behind, powerful, attacks things in the box. I think he’d be a tremendous signing for somebody.”
