Chelsea want to sign another goalkeeper to add to the Blues options despite the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
Enzo Maresca’s side are being linked with a move to sign Genk shot-stopper Mike Penders, before loaning the teenager back to the Belgian side.
The 6ft 7in goalkeeper became the third youngest shot-stopper to debut in the Belgian Pro League last month and Chelsea are hoping to get ahead in the race to sign Penders, according to HITC.
Penders is a Belgian youth international and captains the nation’s u-19 side, where he has earned comparisons to former Chelsea goalkeeper and compatriot Thibaut Courtois.
A fee in the region of £16.8m has been mooted for the 19-year-old, with personal terms reportedly agreed.
Chelsea’s capture of Jorgensen means Chelsea already have seven first-team goalkeepers on their books, in Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Gabriel Slonina, Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom.
