Premier League clubs to pass on defender’s £51m release clause

Premier League clubs are set to pass up the opportunity to sign Gleison Bremer this summer with the defender’s release clause set to expire.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with signing the Brazil international, while Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle are long-term admirers of the player.

Bremer is available for a fee of £51m, but Corriere dello Sport are reporting that no English side is expected to activate that clause before its expiration on August 10.

The centre-back is said to be content in Turin with Juventus having begun an exciting rebuild under Thiago Motta. The Serie A side have signed Douglas Luiz and Khéphren Thuram among their marquee arrivals, having appointed the ex-Bologna boss this summer.

Bremer was named Serie A Defender of the Year in 2021-22 and has been included in the divisional Team of the Season in three consecutive campaigns.

In June, the defender told Marca that he would consider a future move to England or Spain: “The Premier League is a league where everyone wants to play, but I think I’m at a great club, the biggest in the world. And I am very happy about this. I have just won my first title, the Coppa Italia, and I want to continue the story here.

“It’s obvious, however, that in the transfer market you can never say never. We’ll see what happens. There are clubs like Real Madrid or Barcelona that are at the top of the world.

“Also, La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League are the best leagues in the world, so one day I’d like to try. But I repeat, I’m happy at Juventus.”
