Conte unrest could hand Chelsea transfer boost

Antonio Conte is reportedly already unhappy with Napoli’s lack of movement in the transfer market and has threatened to leave the club.

Conte was appointed as Napoli’s head coach earlier in the summer with the 55-year-old tasked with rebuilding a side that struggled to a 10th-placed finish in Serie A last season, just a year after being crowned champions.

Napoli have signed centre-back duo Alessandro Buongiorno and Rafa Marin, while Leonardo Spinazzola has arrived from Roma on a free transfer. However, Conte has demanded the club sign a centre-forward, midfielder and winger imminently – or face the consequences.

According to Gianluca Di Marizo, Conte has handed Napoli an ultimatum to strengthen those positions within the coming days or he will resign. That could be good news for Chelsea, whose out-of-favour forward Romelu Lukaku is Conte’s number one transfer target.

Napoli want to sign Lukaku, who is valued at around £38m, as a replacement for Victor Osimhen who is pushing for an exit. The latter has been linked with moving to Chelsea as part of an exchange deal, though talks have stalled over the conditions of a potential transfer.
