Leicester enter race for in-demand Liverpool midfielder

Leicester City have entered the race to sign Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool as several clubs target the midfielder.

Southampton saw an offer of £15m turned down for Carvalho last week and now face competition from their fellow promoted side to sign the 21-year-old, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Carvalho has returned to Liverpool following loan spells at RB Leipzig and Hull City in 2023-24, having struggled for regular first-team football under Jurgen Klopp.

The midfielder shone on loan at Hull after a difficult spell in Germany during the first half of the season. He scored nine goals in 20 league appearances for the Championship outfit, who narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.

Arne Slot has been running the rule over Carvalho in pre-season following his appointment as Liverpool manager and the former Fulham player has impressed during the tour of the United States, with goals against Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, Liverpool are reportedly prepared to sell at the right price this summer and are in line to make a significant profit on the £5m spent to sign Carvalho in 2022.

Leicester manager Steve Cooper previously coached Carvalho during his role as England u-17 manager. The midfielder has represented both England and Portugal at youth level.
