Ashworth outlines what dynamic signing can bring to Man Utd

Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth has said new recruit Noussair Mazraoui will prove to be an ‘excellent addition’ to the squad.

United have completed the signing of Mazraoui from Bayern Munich for an initial fee of £12.8m, with the full-back arriving in a double deal alongside Matthijs de Ligt.

The duo bolster the defensive options of Erik ten Hag ahead of the upcoming campaign and Ashworth believes Mazraoui’s dynamism and versatility will be real assets to the Red Devils.

“Noussair is a dynamic, attacking full-back who can play on both the right and left side of defence. His experience and versatility will make him an excellent addition to our squad,” Ashworth told the club’s official website.

“Having already won a number of trophies in his career, we know that Noussair’s winning mentality will be a real asset to the group as we work together to deliver the success required of Manchester United.”

Mazraoui said it was an ‘incredible feeling’ to become a Manchester United player and said he is looking forward to reuniting with Erik ten Hag, having previously worked with the Dutchman at former club Ajax.

“It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt. I know that I’m joining the club at an exciting time; everyone I’ve spoken to has the same ambition for us to win trophies together and I can feel the determination to achieve that.

“Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player, so it is exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career. I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful.”

Who have Manchester United signed this summer?

Manchester United have made four permanent signings so far this summer, with the first deal the £34m arrival of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna. The Dutch forward was named Serie A Young Player of the Season in 2023/24 and arrives to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund at number nine.

Leny Yoro was next to arrive after completing a £52m transfer from Lille. United beat competition from Real Madrid to land the 18-year-old, who was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season last term.

Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt have joined from Bayern Munich for a combined fee in the region of €60m (£51m). The defensive duo replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Raphael Varne, who have left the Red Devils to sign for West Ham and Como respectively. Erik ten Hag has previous experience of working with the pair having coached Mazraoui and De Ligt at Ajax.
