Injury adds new twist in Osimhen transfer saga

Paris Saint-Germain could change their stance on a pursuit of Victor Osimhen after forward Goncalo Ramos sustained a fractured ankle.

Ramos is set to be sidelined for three months after fracturing his ankle during the first half of PSG’s 4-1 win over Le Havre on Friday evening.

The Portugal international’s absence leaves PSG short of recognised options at centre-forward, following Kylian Mbappe’s departure for Real Madrid this summer. Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the injury could lead to the pursuit of a striker before the deadline.

Luis Enrique’s side had held talks with Napoli over a deal to sign Victor Osimhen earlier in the transfer window but were unable to reach an agreement with the Italian side.

PSG refused to meet Napoli’s asking price of around £86m, having already committed around £144m on the signings of Joao Neves, Willian Pacho, Desire Doue and Matvey Safonov. Osimhen is open to the move and a return to France, having represented Lille earlier in his career, and talks could be resumed following Ramos’ set back.

PSG will face competition from Chelsea, however, who have discussed a potential swap-deal with Napoli that would involve Romelu Lukaku moving to the Serie A side.

However, Chelsea’s initial interest in Osimhen is a loan deal – an idea the Nigerian has rejected. Arsenal also made a ‘loose enquiry’ into the conditions of a deal for Osimhen earlier this summer.

PSG were linked with Julian Alvarez before his move from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid, while there has been long-standing interest in Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
