Manchester City have held initial talks over a potential deal to sign Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.
Pep Guardiola’s side are considering options to replace Julian Alvarez, who departed to sign for Atletico Madrid in an £82m transfer earlier in the window.
The Premier League champions are understood to be considering two options according to The Athletic, with one of those Japan international Furuhashi.
The 29-year-old has scored 73 goals in 135 appearances for the Scottish champions since joining Celtic from Vissel Kobe in 2021. A three-time title winner with Celtic, he won the Scottish Premiership Golden Boot and PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year after the club’s domestic treble success in 2022/23.
Furuhashi is keen to join Manchester City should a deal be reached with Celtic, where his ability to operate across the forward line would add depth to Guardiola’s options, with Oscar Bobb also set to be sidelined until the New Year.
City’s first focus is on re-signing Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona with an agreement reached, before turning their focus to a forward. The Citizens are weighing up a move for Furuhashi or one unnamed younger option.
