Liverpool transfer target seals move as Chiesa link emerges

Liverpool are set to miss out on one transfer target thanks to Juventus, but could be about to sign Federico Chiesa from the Italian club.

The Old Lady have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Teun Koopmeiners, who is set to undergo medical tests on Wednesday, according to reports from Italy.

The Dutch midfielder was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer as the Reds sought to bolster their midfield options, but the 26-year-old was intent on joining Juventus.

Koopmeiners refused to train for Atalanta and missed the opening three games of the season, including the Uefa Super Cup meeting with Real Madrid. He will now move to Turin in deal worth up to €59 million.

Meanwhile, multiple reports have linked Liverpool with a surprise swoop for Federico Chiesa, who is surplus to requirements at Juventus following the signing of Nico Gonzalez. The winger arrives from Fiorentina on an initial loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy.

Barcelona looked set to sign the Italy international, but have not been been able to close the deal as uncertainty over their ability to register him due to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play Rules.

Spotting an opportunity to hijack the transfer, Liverpool have reportedly ‘made enquiries’ about Chiesa, who is predominantly a left winger but can play across the frontline.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are in ‘advanced talks’ with RB Leipzig over a loan deal for midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, according to Fabrizio Romano. Clubs in Spain are also interested in the 19-year-old, but negotiations are in the ‘final stages’ for a reunion with former assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

Additionally, youngster Tyler Morton could link up with Liverpool legend Xavi Alonso. Sky Sports claim that Bayer Leverkusen have ‘expressed a loan interest’ in the 21-year-old holding midfielder, who would ‘welcome the opportunity’ to play regular minutes in the Bundesliga.
