Everton interested in ex-Manchester United midfielder

Everton have made an approach to sign former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat is free to leave Fiorentina after returning to the club from a loan spell at Manchester United last season.

The Morocco international made 30 appearances in all competitions and started the FA Cup final win over Manchester City, though a decision was made to not turn his loan spell into a permanent transfer.

Fiorentina are prepared to allow the 28-year-old to leave on loan again for 2024/25, though Fabrizio Romano is reporting the Italian side will demand a fee of €2m with a mandatory €12m purchase option.

Fenerbahce are pushing to sign the midfielder as Jose Mourinho continues his overhaul in Istanbul, though the Turkish side face competition from Everton, who made an enquiry on Tuesday.

Sean Dyche’s side sold Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for a fee of £50m earlier in the transfer window and are keen to strengthen in central midfield. Finances are restricted at Goodison Park with loan deals being sought before the deadline.

An Everton medical has been booked for former Nottingham Forest midfielder Orel Mangala, who is set to join on loan with an option to make the move permanent for a fee of €40m.
