Osimhen ‘opens door’ to Saudi Pro League transfer

Al-Ahli are getting closer to agreeing a deal to sign Victor Osimhen with the Napoli forward increasingly open to a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The Saudi side have submitted an improved offer to Napoli for the 25-year-old, who is pushing to leave the Italian side before the transfer window’s closure.

Paris Saint-Germain held talks to sign Osimhen earlier in the summer but have since distanced themselves from the race, while Chelsea remain in ongoing dialect with Napoli over a potential deal. However, the superior offer tabled is from the big-spending Saudi Pro League and Napoli hope to close a deal.

Osimhen showed initial reluctance to move to the Middle East, though transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed the striker’s stance has softened. Amid less concrete proposals from Europe, the Nigerian has opened up to the prospect of a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Osimhen’s representatives are keen to evaluate all proposals before a decision is made, with Chelsea continuing to work on a deal to bring the forward to the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca has made clear his desire to bring in a number nine before the deadline, though the player’s price tag and salary demands have proven problematic.

Osimhen has scored 77 goals in 136 appearances for Napoli since arriving from Lille in 2020 and was the league’s leading scorer as the club won Serie A in 2022/23. He is the highest-scoring African footballer in Serie A history and was named African Footballer of the Year in 2023.
