Arsenal and Chelsea are both considering a move to sign Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the transfer deadline.
Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a potential alternative for Chelsea should the Blues fail to sign either Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Chelsea have been unable to match Osimhen’s salary demands amid rival interest in the forward from the Saudi Pro League, while Toney is also a target for Saudi side Al-Ahli, who have agreed a £40m fee for the 28-year-old.
Football Transfers claim that Calvert-Lewin is a viable alternative to the duo as Enzo Maresca looks to sign a centre-forward before the window’s closure. The 27-year-old has less than a year to run on his contract at Everton and could be available for a cut-price fee.
Everton are reportedly interested in signing David Datro Fofana from Chelsea, which could help facilitate a late swoop for Calvert-Lewin.
Arsenal also monitoring Calvert-Lewin
Arsenal are also understood to be monitoring Calvert-Lewin. The forward, who has four goals in 11 caps for England, has been hampered by injury problems in recent campaigns.
However, he showed signs of his best form towards the end of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign and ended the season with seven goals in 33 league appearances for the Toffees. Calvert-Lewin could offer Arsenal a more out-and-out alternative to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus at centre-forward.
As things stand, Calvert-Lewin is more likely to join Chelsea than Arsenal before the deadline for deals.
When is the transfer deadline for Premier League clubs?
Premier League clubs can complete signings up until 11pm on Friday August 30. There will be a two-hour window post-deadline to conclude transfers, provided a deal sheet is submitted before 11pm.
