Chelsea defender excited to ‘reunite’ with England boss

Levi Colwill has said he is excited to reunite with Lee Carsley in the senior England team after the latter’s appointment as interim manager.

Carsley has been promoted to the senior side on a temporary basis, following Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down after Euro 2024.

The 50-year-old has had huge success with the u-21 side, who he led to the u-21 European Championship in 2023. It was a first triumph in the competition for the Young Lions in 39 years.

Chelsea’s Colwill formed part of that team and has been selected in Carsley’s first squad, as England prepare to face the Republic of Ireland and Finland in the UEFA Nations League this month.

The 21-year-old has praised Carsley as a ‘great manager’ and said he is looking forward to the reunion with the head coach and the group of u-21 players promoted to the squad this month.

Carsley has given first call-ups to Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes, Noni Madueke and Tino Livramento for this month’s fixtures.

Colwill says ‘it’s an exciting time to be an England player’

“I’m definitely excited to reunite with him,” Colwill told Chelsea’s official website.

“I know he’s a great manager, from when I’ve been with him in the Under-21s, so it’s just a really exciting time for England.

“I think the players he’s brought through are amazing players, they’re playing at the top level and they’re doing really well. So it is a really exciting time to be an England player and to be a part of it, to be an England fan.”
