Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is reportedly being targetted for a January move to the Bundesliga, after failing to nail down a regular starting berth so far this season.
The 22-year-old has not made a single Premier League appearance for the Gunners this term, with his only two outings having come in the Carabao Cup, in which he notable scored in the recent 2-0 win over Leeds United.
While his fine, composed finish in that win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side was a clear marker of his undoubted talent, chances for more minutes have remained at a premium, with Mikel Arteta having favoured the more experienced duo of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in attack.
The young forward had originally made his debut for the club back in 2017, albeit before truly breaking into the side following Arteta’s arrival in the second-half of the 2019/20 campaign, after having spent the first-half of that season on-loan at Ellan Road.
While he would go on to score six times in 29 games in all competitions last season, he has found opportunities limited this term, with the Sun now suggesting that he could be in line for a move to Borussia Monchengladbach in the winter window.
The Englishman has less than a year remaining on his existing deal, leaving open the possibility that he could depart for ‘free’ at the end of the season, albeit with any interested party set to have to pay compensation to Arsenal.
The report suggests that while the north London side are keen to tie him down to a new deal, the player is seeking pastures new in search of more regular time, having come close to an exit over the summer amid interest from the likes of Crystal Palace.
He will now be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January ahead of a move in the summer, or the Gunners may wish to cash in in the new year in order to receive a transfer fee for the academy product.
