Increasing player ‘revolt’ leaves Man Utd giving ‘serious consideration’ to sacking Solskjaer

Manchester United are said to be giving ‘serious consideration’ to sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid an increasing player ‘revolt’ at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer’s position is once again under the spotlight following a disappointing 2-0 derby defeat to Manchester City, the Red Devils outplayed and outclassed in a dreadful display this weekend.

The loss extended the club’s recent record to six defeats from their past 12 fixtures and has left Solskjaer’s side nine points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, whilst the manner of the defeat to City has further raised questions over the Norwegian’s position in charge.

According to the Mail, the United board are now giving ‘serious consideration’ to making an immediate change, having initially sided with giving Solskjaer until the end of the current campaign, allowing more time to consider a potential next appointment.

There is now a growing feeling that Solskjaer has lost the confidence of several senior squad members, with both Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo amongst those concerned with the club’s direction.

United resisted the temptation to sack Solskjaer following the 5-0 thrashing at home to Liverpool last month, but another embarrassing home defeat to a fierce rival has piled the pressure on the board once again.

The international break could now prove a pivotal moment for the Red Devils’ hierarchy with the side facing a fight to secure a top-four finish and qualification to this season’s Champions League knockout stages on current form.
