Arsenal vs Liverpool – Predicted lineup and team news

Arsenal host Liverpool in a seismic showdown at the Emirates on Sunday, as the title-chasing Gunners welcome the Premier League leaders to North London.

Mikel Arteta’s side are aiming to bounce back from last weekend’s loss at Bournemouth, a first defeat of the campaign for Arsenal and one that did not come without further issues.

William Saliba’s red card was Arsenal’s third of the season already, raising questions over the discipline of Arteta’s side. Arsenal have dropped points in each of their three games that have seen a man sent off and cannot afford to give an in-form Liverpool any advantages this weekend.

Liverpool have made a picture perfect start to Arne Slot’s tenure with the Dutchman having stepped seamlessly into his role as Jurgen Klopp’s successor. The Reds have won 11 of his first 12 games in charge across all competitions, after hard-fought victories over Chelsea and RB Leipzig over the past week.

The tough fixtures continue coming for Liverpool, though the Merseysiders will take to the pitch on Sunday full of confidence. A win will put clear daylight between them and an Arsenal side who have finished as Premier League runners-up in each of the last two seasons.

Arsenal team news

William Saliba is not the only big name absentee from the Arsenal squad for this weekend, though the Frenchman’s suspension might be Arteta’s most pressing concern. Saliba’s partnership with Gabriel has been the foundation on which Arsenal’s progress has been built and a reshuffle is required in a depleted defence.

There are also doubts over Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori though Arteta refused to rule either out during his pre-match press conference. Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko could come into the side if the duo are deemed unfit to feature.

Martin Odegaard is also unlikely to return from his ankle issue and Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury leaves Arsenal short of creativity. Saka has seven assists from seven Premier League appearances but has missed the last two games after picking up the injury on international duty earlier this month. He is another facing a race against time to feature at the Emirates.
