Chelsea boss Enzo Meresca has said Cole Palmer is the type of player fans pay to watch after the midfielder’s performance in the club’s 2-1 win over Newcastle.
Palmer helped Chelsea back into the Premier League’s top four with a hard-fought win at Stamford Bridge, producing another instrumental performance for the Blues.
The 22-year-old’s defence-splitting pass released Pedro Neto in the build up to Chelsea’s opening goal, before Palmer scored the decisive second with his seventh goal of the Premier League campaign.
Maresca was full of praise for Palmer’s performance and said the PFA Young Player of the Year is the type of player fans love to watch.
“It is the reason why people pay, they want to see that kind of player,” the Italian told Sky Sports.
“We are very happy to have him.”
Maresca said he was happy with the performance from Chelsea but said he is always ‘concerned’ with how his team can improve.
“It was a different kind of game compared to the rest. We know how strong they are and how good they are. We had some good moments on the ball, very happy overall.
“I am always concerned,” he continued when asked where Chelsea can improve.
“We can attack better and defend better. We started three months ago so I am very happy where we are now. The important thing is the feeling is good.”
“We play nine games already. I am not looking at the table at the moment. If you do that sometimes you can be confused.
“The players are understanding every day what we are working for. The fans can enjoy and dream. Us as a club and as players, we need to understand there are many things we can do better.”
