Paris Saint-Germain lodge €95m bid for Arsenal defender

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly lodged a bid of €95m (£79.8m) to sign Arsenal centre-back William Saliba.

Saliba has emerged as one of Europe’s best young defenders in the Premier League and PSG are keen to bring the Frenchman back to Ligue 1.

The French champions have reportedly submitted an opening offer of €95m (£79.8m) for Saliba, just short of the world-record fee for a defender.

Arsenal have no interest in selling the 23-year-old but are braced for interest in Saliba in the upcoming transfer windows, with Real Madrid also admirers of the player.

Spanish outlet Fichajes have claimed PSG have now made the first move to sign the centre-back. Milan Skriniar has been linked with leaving Luis Enrique’s side after struggling for regular first-team football and Saliba is a transfer target to strengthen the heart of the club’s defence.

Saliba, who came through the academy at Saint-Etienne, has been named in the Premier League’s Team of the Season in each of the last two campaigns after helping Arsenal to the division’s best defensive record. He was also named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year during a loan spell at Marseille in 2021/22.

This season, Saliba leads all Premier League players for pass accuracy (94.9%) and percentage of dribblers tackled (90%).
