Departing Edu ‘frustrated’ by Arsenal transfer decision

Edu Gaspar was reportedly left “frustrated” by Arsenal’s decision-making in the summer transfer window and may have contributed to decision to leave the club.

The Brazilian resigned as sporting director on Monday, 4 November to take up a new role under Evangelos Marinakis’ umbrella of football clubs, which includes Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest, Greek outfit Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave.

Edu initially joined the Gunners as a technical director in 2019, but was promoted in 2022 and has overseen expenditure of roughly £807 million on 36 signings.

The 46-year-old has played a key role in the steady progress Arsenal have enjoyed in recent years, with the club challenging for the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.
