Keane unimpressed by Man United after Amorim bow

Roy Keane does not believe Manchester United have the quality to secure Champions League qualification this season.

Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday, as Omari Hutchinson’s deflected effort cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s early opener for Manchester United.

There was intrigue around the Red Devils ahead of Amroim’s bow, following his appointment as the club’s new manager. However, United were unable to build on their opener scored inside two minutes.

United dominated possession in the second half, though Ipswich created the better chances at Portman Road. Andre Onana’s brilliant save from Liam Delap ensured Amorim’s first game did not end in defeat.

Former Manchester United captain Keane assessed the performance at full-time and questioned whether a change in manager would be enough to salvage the club’s season.

“We saw the shape of the team but it is the same players and same problems. We talk about leopards and spots,” Keane said to Sky Sports.

“Lack of goals and lack of quality in the second half. Ipswich looked the better team.

“It’s his first game. A lot to take in and it has been a mental week for him [Amorim] but ultimately he will be disappointed.

“This team, for the last year or two, has been all about moments.

“United sat back and you’re thinking, what are you waiting for? Go after them!

“They seemed fearful to go on and win the game. They lacked the confidence and belief.

“Do I believe they have the quality to get them back to top four? Absolutely not. The evidence is not there.

“It’s the same old stuff. Predictable and a real lack of quality.”
