Frank Lampard is not in the running to replace Steven Gerrard as Rangers boss, with the former Chelsea manager not on the club’s final shortlist of candidates.
Lampard has been linked with replacing his former England teammate at Ibrox, following Gerrard’s decision to leave the Scottish champions and succeed Dean Smith at Aston Villa.
Lampard had also been named as a contender for the recently vacant position at Norwich City, though turned down the chance to return to the Premier League with the Canaries, who subsequently appointed the aforementioned Smith.
Sky Sports are reporting that the 43-year-old is not being considered by Rangers, whose final list of candidates is led by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who held ‘positive talks’ with the club last weekend.
Van Bronckhorst spent three seasons with Rangers during his playing career and has been without a club since leaving his position at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou City F.C. He also previously spent four seasons in charge of Feyenoord, winning the Eredivisie title in 2016/17.
Rangers have currently appointed a coaching team of David McCallum, Brian Gilmour, Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart to run first-team affairs whilst the recruitment process continues, with Rangers facing a Scottish League Cup semi-final with Hibernian on Sunday, before a crucial Europa League clash with Sparta Prague in midweek.
