Dele Alli to train with new club ahead of return to football

Dele Alli is set to train with Italian side Como next month as the midfielder looks to make his return to football.

The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Everton in the summer. Last year, the midfielder revealed he spent six weeks in rehab as he sought to deal with several childhood traumas.

He has not featured competitively since February 2023, when representing Turkish side Besiktas on loan from Everton.

Alli’s career has stalled due to injuries and off-field issues, following an explosive start to his senior career. After signing for Tottenham from MK Dons as a teenager, Alli won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards in North London.

The 37-cap England international was in the stands to watch Como beat AS Roma 2-0 in Serie A at the weekend. The Italian side were promoted back into the top tier last season and are under the management of ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. Their win over Roma lifted the club out of the relegation places.

When asked about the possibility of Alli joining Como, Fabregas said after the game: “He could train with us after Christmas to find his form.”
