Napoli are interested in a deal to sign Harry Maguire when his Manchester United contract expires in the summer.
Maguire’s current deal expires at the end of the season, though United have an option to trigger an extension until 2026.
Speaking after last weekend’s derby win at Manchester City, Magurie said there have been talks over an extension, despite the club spending more than £90m on Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt in the summer.
“Listen, I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve still got this year to go with an option (extra 12 months) in their hands, But all the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive,” he said.
Ruben Amorim has praised the England international of late and believes he is ‘perfect’ in his back three system.
[Harry] Maguire is perfect when you play with the three defenders. I think in the middle [he] is perfect. Then the way that the striker that they have [Erling Haaland] with the long balls, you need to be really strong and so was perfect for him,” Amorim said after the City win.
The Athletic are reporting that Napoli are watching his situation closely. Antonio Conte’s side signed Scott McTominay from Manchester United last summer and the midfielder has shone since the switch to Serie A. Galatasaray are also considering an approach for Maguire as the Turkish champions look to reinforce their defence.
Maguire will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1st.
