Ange Postecoglou has admitted he is ‘tired of the same questions’ from the media as he looks to turn around Tottenham’s season.
Postecoglou was visibly irked by the line of questioning following his side’s 6-3 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. The Australian snapped back at question marks over his side’s vulnerability and pointed to the long list of defensive absentees.
Spurs take on high-flying Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day at the City Ground, aiming to reduce the gap to the Champions League places. Currently 11th in the table, the North Londoners are eight points adrift of the top four.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou was asked whether he felt ‘angry’ in the aftermath of Sunday’s loss.
“I wasn’t angry, but I don’t know many managers that bounce into interviews after a defeat and are all cheery.
“Fair to say I am getting tired of the same questions over and over and perhaps after a defeat it’s easier to get a reaction.”
Postecoglou provided an update on his squad ahead of the clash and confirmed Destiny Udogie is fit to return to the starting side. Rodrigo Bentancur is also available after a seven-match ban.
“From the game, as far as I’m aware no issues. Destiny [Udogie] was on the bench but wasn’t 100% quite right and should be right. [Rodrigo] Bentancur is available after his suspension. That’s kind of it for now.”
Postecoglou has opted to leave Brennan Johnson on the bench in recent games, despite the Welshman being the club’s joint-leading scorer alongside Dominic Solanke (10). Asked what Johnson needs to do to get back into the side, the Australian added: “Brennan just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. I’ve had Deki [Kulusevski] there and he’s done really well and scoring goals.
“It’s about the balance of the team. It’s about managing that load. We’re already overburdening some of the players up there. Brennan will get his minutes.”
