Ruben Amorim has sent a message to Marcus Rashford and said the forward has a ‘big responsibility’ to help Manchester United through one of the club’s ‘lowest moments’.
Rashford was dropped for the Manchester Derby against Manchester City earlier this month and has not featured in the last three squads. Following his omission from the win at the Etihad, the 27-year-old revealed he is open to leaving the club.
Rashford said he was ‘ready’ for a new challenge after 426 appearances and 138 goals for his boyhood side.
Amorim has not included Rashford since but has refused to close the door on a return to the side.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Wolves, the 39-year-old was again asked about the forward’s future. He suggested Rashford is in a category of players who have a ‘big responsibility’ to turn around the club’s fortunes. United are 13th in the Premier League table.
“Some guys have a big responsibility here because they have been here for a long time,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“If you have big talents, we need big performance, big responsibility, big engagement to push everybody forward in this moment.
“This is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club. We have to face it and be strong.”
Amorim has lost four of his first nine games in a challenging start as manager at Old Trafford. On solving the club’s issues, he added: “If I knew, I would solve all the problems of this club, even this.
“I know what I am going to do. That is so clear for me. I will not say I am feel relaxed because I’m really frustrated. It’s a very difficult moment but we will solve problems step by step and find answers for everything.”
