Man Utd players offered ‘fresh hope’ amid Solskjaer departure, but Lingard still wants to leave

Manchester United’s unsettled stars have been offered ‘fresh hope’ following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, but Jesse Lingard still wants to leave the club.

Solskjaer’s refusal to rotate the side led to frustrations within the squad, a whole host of players – including Anthony Martial, Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek – having considered an exit during the January window amid a lack of opportunities.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the Norwegian’s sacking has prompted a rethink from several stars, who are prepared to wait and see whether their prospects of regular football improve under an incoming manager.

Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles are also amongst those seeking increased opportunities, with the Red Devils currently seeking an interim manager until the end of the season, with Michael Carrick currently in charge of first-team affairs.

Jesse Lingard’s desire to leave the club remains unchanged, however, the midfielder having lost his place in the England squad after making just one start across all competitions so far this season.

The 28-year-old – who is out of contract at the end of the season – reignited his career during a loan spell at West Ham last season, but has found himself marginalised once again at Old Trafford and is amongst the players to have been left ‘misled’ by Solskjaer’s broken promises over playing time.

Lingard is set to attract significant interest and has been linked with a return to West Ham, with the midfielder keen to feature regularly as he bids for a place in England’s 2022 World Cup squad.
